Assistant Accountant

About the role
We have a great opportunity for an Assistant Accountant to join our team operating a large successful Joint Venture Business. Reporting to the Joint Venture Manager this role is primarily responsible for the Joint Venture taking ownership of the accounting functions, particularly around month end processes and deadlines. The varied nature of the role within a small dynamic team allows for plenty of opportunity to upskill and gain varied experience across the business.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Review and implement processes and procedures, including robust internal controls
- Ensure timely and accurate month end reporting, including standardization improvements
- Oversee recording of transactions, including purchase order assistance where required
- Assist with weighbridge controls, customer setup and reporting, and backup for invoicing and customer liaison
- Database management, Capital Asset management systems
- Assist with Joint Venture external reporting, budgeting, and annual tasks as required
- Support Operations Managers, Commercial Managers, and Finance Managers
About you
We are looking for someone with the following skills and experience:
- An accounting or finance degree, with a minimum of five years’ work experience, ideally in a large complex organization with tight month end deadlines
- Strong data modelling and analysis skills
- Ability to collate and analyse data from multiple sources and systems
- Excellent time management and commercial skills
- Good communication skills both verbal and written
- Ability to communicate complex accounting issues to non-accountants
- Team player with a personality & willingness to involve yourself with the wider team, but equally comfortable working autonomously
- Knowledge of the construction, logistics, or waste industries would be an advantage
- Interest in learning new systems and processes
